Bloomington’s Tibetan Mongolian Buddhist Cultural Center is hosting a unique series of classes, one specially tailored for the “Jewish Buddhist.” Jews have long had a special interest and affection for Buddhism, and at least over the past few decades, the Tibetan Buddhist community has had a relationship with the Jewish people. The series delves into this special relationship between Buddhists and Jews.
Presenting will be Buddhist teacher from Israel, Ani Choekyi. She has been an ordained Tibetan Buddhist nun since 2001 and a student of psychology and cognitive science, a musician, a writer and a group therapist who lives, teaches and works in Israel. She is the only fully ordained nuns in the Tibetan Buddhist community.
Along with Ani Choekyi will be Rabbi Steven A. Ballaban. Rabbi Ballaban currently serves as Rabbi of Temple Shir Tikva in Bloomington. Rabbi Ballaban has worked to improve the quality of education available to Jews around the world, and created programs to increase interfaith understanding between Jewish, Christian, Catholic, and Muslim students.
